We have been running FMP Lite on one server and are attempting to transfer it to another. We have transferred all files, but due to the way the new database works the hosting company transferred the database so when the DNS transfer is complete the site will be live with no downtime. However when we went into the program to change the database name and path it appears to be encrypted. The only way I can think to solve this is to re-install the entire program which can only happen after the DNS transfer is complete causing downtime. Can you advise?
Thank you!

Yes these are encryted. You can try to move the entire mysql database across using phpmyadmin or backup.

We have already transferred the information as you mention in your reply, however the database on the old server is "localhost" the new server's database has a domain path. Also the database name was required to change as the new server automatically assigns names.
Therefore, we must change the information in the program to match the new databse, not the other way around.
If we simply re-install the program on the server it will wipe the db clean or refuse to install due to the db already existing.
Is there a way around this?
Thank you.

You can export your list and then import into the new installation.

During this time the site cannot be live. From the time the DNS is pointed to the new site we will have to constantly monitor it, because the minute it switches to the new server it is down until after the program is re-installed and the database is re-loaded due to the configuration of the site. This is very inconvenient. If the program is going to be built in this manner then there needs to be a way to update the installation, putting in new paths without destroying the integrity of a site. I have come across other programs that were also encrypted, however they provided a way to transfer a program without going to this hassle. A simple work around that asks you during the install if it is a new database or an already populated database would solve the problem. The re-install would still encrypt the path, but it would not attempt to re-write the database. This is a simple solution.

The Pro version has an update feature which allows you to upgrade from the Lite version.
