I tested out the double opt in feature with an existing 'account' where I have an fmlp form on my site.
I noticed that when I clicked the form's submit/subscribe button, firefox prompted me asking me whether or not I wanted the register.cgi script opened with a program on my system or save the file to disk. I do have a perl program on my system, but I certainly don't want people getting this notice when they fill in the form on my site.
When I de-activated the double opt-in feature for this account, I no longer had this problem.
Any ideas what's wrong. I used the text template provided for the double opt in and it did this, as well as an html double opt in page I created.

I am using FMLP Pro myself with Firefox but I never had this problem.
Can you please try:
1. Using IE. See whether the problem repeats.
2. Change your Firefox security setting.
Did anybody else have this problem?

DRQ,
I'm still having the double opt-in problem. I've tried using firefox, then internet explorer, then a different computer altogether, and I get the same results.
Here's what happens in Firefox - when I click the subscribe button on the form it prompts me to download the register.cgi file
In explorer, it just goes to a 'the page cannot be displayed' error.
I'm sure it's my host or something about my setup, but I want to make sure my list of clients is valid, and I don't want anyone getting spam.
Maybe you can login to my site and test it for yourself?

Ok...I figured out the problem!
In the 'edit messages' section of FMLP I was clicking double opt in and saving it.
However, I needed to go to the 'Account Options' page and check the double opt-in box and specify the confirmation page.
Situation RESOLVED...it works now!

Is there a way to have different pages the user goes to after clicking 'subscribe' versus confirming the email address for double opt in?
I see there are places on the 'account options' to put the redirect page or an html template for both subscribe and double opt in.
However, when I select the double opt in, the double opt-in url overrides and is where the user gets redirected both after clicking the subscribe button and when they confirm their email address.
Can I have a seperate page they go to when they click subscribe - like a page that tells them to check their email?
Then can I have a seperate page where they go after they click the link in their email? Something like 'thank you, you've been subscribed'

Not sure what you meant by:
"In the 'edit messages' section of FMLP I was clicking double opt in and saving it."
The double optin feature as you rightly pointed out is in the 'Account Options' page.

The Thankyou, Subscribed and Double Optin are different pages which are customisable. They should direct you to different pages depending on your choice. There is no overriding involved by double optin over subscribe page. I suggest you test things out one by one.

Ok...I figured it out.
(1)Basically, the 'double opt in confirmation page is the page the user immediately goes to AFTER filling the form and pressing the subscribe button.
(2)The 'thank you page settings: redirect subscribers to' page is where they go after they click the link in their email!
Sorry, but I was using the non double opt in before, so the subscriber thank you page (2) was where the user went right after clicking the subscribe button. When I changed it over to double opt-in, the double opt in page (1) is what shows up directly after clicking the subscribe button, and the thank you page (2) is the final page the user sees after clicking the link in the email.
Thanks DRQ - as usual, the software works great and I am the dum-dum here!

1) The 'double opt in confirmation page is the page the user immediately goes to AFTER clicking the link in the confirmation email he receive- for double optin.
(2)The 'thank you page redirect subscribers to' page is where they go after they click the submit button- with double optin disabled.
