Hi Dr Quek,

Can you explain "in detail" how to setup a 'subscribe to email address' that will allow someone to subscribe to my autoresponder/mailing list via an email address. Then, enter that email address?

I have an ACOUNT in FMLP Pro called 'Newsletter' and want to know the address I would use to allow a third party "product delivery program" to access the Newsletter ACCOUNT and add a name and email address to the Newsletter mailing List, without me doing it manually.

Kind Regards,

Paul

Hi Dr Quek,

Thank you for your quick response.

I received a "Reply to thread" email from you notifying me that you had replied to my thread, but the "from line" in the email had the words:

"Hacked by Nist // St Gerilla Kuvvetleri...!!!"

Q1. Did you send this?

The message contain the following:
"drquek has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - How to setup a "Subscribe To Email Address" - in the Autoresponder and Mailing List Manager (FMLP) Pro forum of Hacked by Nist // St Gerilla Kuvvetleri...!!!.

This thread is located at:
http://www.doctorquek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=200&goto=newpost
Here is the message that has just been posted:
***************
1. Go to ACCOUNTS
2. under POP3 Setting, fill up the following:
Allow subscribing by sending blank email
Subscribe email
POP3 Server
POP3 Username
POP3 Password
POP3 Server port
3. Select double optin
***************

Q2. The message content is exactly what is at your forum. Do you know why I received this, has someone hacked your forum?

Q3. In relation to the question I posted I understand your reply and what I need to do in FMLP Pro, but what do I do at the other end, that is, from the 3rd Party download programs side?

Q4. If I want the 3rd party program to send a persons name and email details to my newsletter ACCOUNT in FMLP Pro, and the newsletter ACCOUNT is called newsletter, and my domain name is mydomain.com, would the line newsletter@mydomain.com be all that is needed in the third party program?
I don't know how this will work, any help would be greatly appreciated;

kind regards,
Paul

Q1 and 2: My site has been hacked and we are working to restore this.

Q3. What third party program you referring to?

Q4. Simply put the email address on your webpage where you visitors may click and send an empty email. They will be automatically added to the autoresponder sequence. Try this yourself.

Hi Dr Quek,
I don't want to place a link on a web page!!
I have a 3rd party program (DPG)that securely delivers my ebooks after a purchase, and I want to place an address in the php script so that the script will sign the purchaser of my books up to FMLP Pro mailing list automatically.

In DPG the following 2 fields govern how I set up buyers details being sent to a autoresponder/maillist.
===========================================
// Whether to Activate your Autoresponder. Default value = 0
// Change it to 1 (one) if you want to add the buyer to your autoresponder.
$AutoResponder = 1;

// Your Autoresponder Email Address. Keep the default value if you don't have one.
$AutoAddress = "newsletter@mydomain.com";
===========================================

I have gone to FMLP PRO>Newsletter ACCOUNTS and, under the POP3 Setting, filled in the following fields:
Allow subscribing by sending blank email
Subscribe email = newsletter@mydomain.com
POP3 Server = mail.mydomain.com
POP3 Username = newsletter+mydomain.com
POP3 Password = xxxxxxxxx
POP3 Server port = 110

Then I selected double optin as you suggested but I still cannot get anything to work - can you suggest something else?

Could there be incompatibility between scripts? I wouldn't think this was the problem as its only an email address being used.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I urgently need to get this working.

regards,
Paul

Dear Dr Quek,

THIS IS AN ADDITION TO THE QUESTION ABOVE, that is, #5. I hope the extra information will help.

I cannot get FMLP Pro to accept an email from DPG digital security delivery system

I cannot get FMLP Pro to sign up a new subscriber to my Newsletter ACCOUNT in FMLP Pro using the mailto:newsletter@mydomain.com method you described above.

I have placed the above link into an email, and a word document, then pressed CTRL and clicked on the link. A seperate email form opens, as one would expect, but when I click SEND, the email show up at newsletter@mydomain.com on my web server webmail. FMLP Pro does not intercept the email and sign the subscriber up to my ACCOUNT called Newsletter. As is the procedure when using a FMLP Pro form on my website.

Could it be my POP3 settings?
I have included them below. The first group are the values copied straight off my web server, while the second group is what I have placed in FMLP Pro's POP3 setting using the web server settings.

Web Server Settings
Manual Settings
Mail Server Username: newsletter+mydomain.com
Incoming Mail Server: mail.mydomain.com
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.mydomain.com (server requires authentication) port 25
Supported Incoming Mail Protocols: POP3, POP3S (SSL/TLS), IMAP, IMAPS (SSL/TLS)
Supported Outgoing Mail Protocols: SMTP, SMTPS (SSL/TLS)

FMLP Pro's Settings (that I set)
Allow subscribing by sending blank email:
Subscribe email: newsletter+mydomain.com
POP3 Server: mail.mydomain.com
POP3 Username: newsletter@mydomain.com
POP3 Password: XXXXXXXX
POP3 Server port: 110

Can you see any problems with the above or suggest what I could try?
================================================== ===

My DPG vendor has requested that I ask you how to setup a:
'subscribe to email address'
that will allow someone to subscribe to FMLP's autoresponder VIA AN EMAIL ADDRESS?

These are the two fields I need to fill out in DPG's security program:
// Whether to Activate your Autoresponder. Default value = 0
// Change it to 1 (one) if you want to add the buyer to your autoresponder.
$AutoResponder = 1;
// Your Autoresponder Email Address. Keep the default value if you don't
//have one.
$AutoAddress = "newsletter@adwordsnavigator.com";

Your help would be most appreciated!!

kind regards,
Paul

I suggest that you:

1. Try to get the autoresponder email to work first before including it in your php program. You can isolate the problem this way.
2. The most likely cause is the POP3 email account setting. Please check you can use the same info in your Outlook Express to access the same mailbox.
3. Try a different mailbox on a different server. May be your first mail server setting is different.

I have never received any complaint on this feature and I have use it on many servers without problem.

Hi Dr Quek,

I have no idea what you are asking me to try!

Could you please describe what you want me to do in detail?

I have supplied a detailed email to you that shows my FMLP Pro settings, Web server settings and the 3rd party program requirements. You have made no mention of any of these things and just sent a cryptic reply.

Please explain in detail what you want me to try?

kind regards,

Paul

PS I have been waiting 3 days to get this feature working. I implore you to help me finishing setting FMLP Pro up.

First of all, I believe the problem you facing is due to incorrect setting of your particular POP account. There is no problem with the script as we have yet to receive any complaint on this.

Having said that, you must find out why you are having problem setting up your email.

So I will explain again each step I described above:

1. Try to get the autoresponder email to work first before including it in your php program. You can isolate the problem this way.

Do not worry with getting your php/DPG program to work now.

Try to get your autoresponder email to work first.

Check your pop settings by opening your cpanel or contacting your host.

2. The most likely cause is the POP3 email account setting. Please check you can use the same info in your Outlook Express to access the same mailbox.

One easy way is to recreate your pop account and enter the details into your email client eg., Outlook Express. Try sending and receiving emails.

If it works you know your settings are correct.

3. Try a different mailbox on a different server. May be your first mail server setting is different.

May be the problem is due to your particular mail server/host.

Try a different host/mail server on a different domain.

Try that and let me know.

You can skype me (drquek) any time.

Don't worry. I will help you to get it working for you!

Hi Dr,

Thanks for you kind reply.

Firstly, Point 1. in your email above says,
"Try to get the autoresponder email to work first before including it in your php program. You can isolate the problem this way."

I may not have explained myself properly. The autoresponder/mailing list is working correctly when I run a test, by signing up for a newsletter, from the FMLP created form, that I have placed on my website.
Any new signup gets listed in the mailing list.
The problem is I cannot click on an external link and get listed in the FMLP mailing list.
If I type newsletter@mydomain.com into the "To:" field in a new email in Outlook Express, the email arrives at my webmail at newsletter@mydomain.com but does not get intercepted by FMLP Pro.
If I fill out the FMLP Pro form at my website everything works fine. The form mail get intercepted by FMLP Pro and does not go to my webmail box for newsletter@mydomain.com.
================================================== ===

You say,
"Try to get your autoresponder email to work first."

Q1. What do you mean? How do I do that? Could you please outline the method step by step?
================================================== ===

Regarding your comment,
"Check your pop settings by opening your Cpanel or contacting your host."

I have done both and they tell me the following,
Subscriber Email = newsletter@mydomain.com

Mail Server Username = newsletter+mydomain.com
(In user name above I'm not sure if I should use "newsletter" on its own, or newsletter+mydomain.com or newsletter@mydomain.com).
Incoming Mail Server = mail.mydomain.com
POP3 Server Port = 110
===========================================

Q2. Should I be using Port 25 instead of Port 110?
Q3. Do you know what mail server user name I should be using out of the following:
a. newsletter
b. newsletter+mydomain.com
c. newsletter@mydomain.com
===========================================

You say further,
"The most likely cause is the POP3 email account setting. Please check you can use the same info in your Outlook Express to access the same mailbox. One easy way is to recreate your pop account and enter the details into your email client eg., Outlook Express. Try sending and receiving emails."

Q4. Can you explain in detail how I use the same information in Outlook? I have no idea what you want me to do. What steps are involved in "recreating my pop account", or "how to enter the details into my email client". I don't know how to do this. Please give step by step instructions?
===========================================

Please understand I am not complaining I believe FMLP Pro is a good program, for some reason I am just having a problem with this. But a hasty solution would be appreciated.

As always thanks for your help!
regards,
Paul

P.S.
I just received a reply back from my server regarding my POP3 settings:

Thanks for your email. I am unsure as to what the subscriber email
address is. I would recommend reading through and documentation that
came with the software that is asking for this information as nothing on
our server should be asking you for this.

The POP3 server is mail.mydomain.com
The POP3 Username is the email address in question
(newsletter@mydomain.com)
The POP3 Server port is 110.

Q5. Can you tell me what you mean by the "subscriber email address"? Do you know what it may be considering all of the above?

drquek

1. I know your form work properly, you are only having problem with your autoresponder.

These are two separate problems. Your form may work but your autoresponder email may not due to wrong POP settings.

I have already described to you how to do this. Please read point 2 above.

2. Try Port 110 as recommended.

3. As to the username and server name, you need to do some trials and errors as there is no universal rule as to the right format to use.
In fact, this varies slightly from servers to servers. Sometimes it works using + instead of @ in the username.

4. What you need from your POP mail settings include:

mail server
username
password

5. I think subscriber's email address is referring to your (the admin) email address in the context of your email exchanges with the host.
