automatic send at sign up

I cannot seem to find the answer anywhere. when someone fills in the name and email on the form it puts them as prospects in the subscriber manager, but how do i set it up to automatically send them an email to verify their email and a link that they click after they submit the form and send them somewhere for download or something like that?

Under ACCOUNT/EDIT MESSAGES/SEND SUBSCRIBE MESSAGE- you add the message to send out immediately upon signing up.

Under ACCOUNT/EDIT MESSAGES/ADD MESSAGE- you add the message to be sent out at predetermined time intervals
